Year 1: The Pastors College

Equipping pastors to keep a watch on their life and doctrine.

The apostle Paul encouraged Timothy to, “watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.” (1 Timothy 4:16). These dual priorities—life and doctrine—inform every facet of the TFPC. As such, we seek to pastor students through the equipping process, and we seek to train them for pastoral ministry both inside and outside the classroom.

It is our desire that the TFPC be especially marked by four distinctives:

  • Academically rigorous courses which appropriately display our values of gospel-centrality and equipping men for pastoral ministry.
  • Teachers who model academic excellence and pastoral gifting, reflecting character worthy of a pastor both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Discipleship from TFC in areas of spiritual growth and maturity, discerning calling and gifting, and developing a pastoral heart.
  • Pastoral opportunities in TFC to further identify and develop pastoral giftings in each student.

Our prayer is that these components will equip our students to be godly, skilled, and faithful shepherds who lead and care for “the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood” (Acts 20:28).

Program Requirements

Students complete 42 modular-style courses over a 12-month period, covering a full range of biblical, theological, and pastoral studies. Biblical Greek is also taught throughout the year — Advanced Greek is offered for students who test out of Introductory Greek. Each course runs Tuesday through Friday, for a total of 25 hours of instruction. Each course also requires 25-30 hours of outside reading and assignments.

Discipleship

The Trinity Fellowship Pastors College is committed to pastoral discipleship for both students and their families. The student enjoys regular events facilitated by TFC to stimulate further conversation and practical application.

  • Morning devotions and singing.
  • Lunch with the instructor.
  • Preaching practicum for each student.
  • Attending TFC elder’s meetings.
  • Weekly men’s and women’s groups.
  • Monthly couples’ groups.

Cohort Model. Students will work together with members of their cohort (small group) to complete assignments, make applications from class to pastoral ministry, encourage and strengthen one another, and provoke each other towards greater degrees of holiness. The intent is to deepen relationships, strengthen both learning and transformation, and foster ministry partnership that last beyond the Pastors College year.

The Pastors College Wives. The Pastors College is not only for our students. We also prepare the student’s wife to serve alongside him in ministry. We offer care, discipleship, and specialized training to the wives throughout the school year.
